Radio Libertaire, "The voice without god, nor master, nor ads", began broadcasting on FM on September 1, 1981.
Galas in support of RL follow one another in 1983, in Paris with top artists as Bernard Lavilliers at the Olympia in June and Léo Ferré at the Espace Balard in December, attracting 6,500 spectators [2].
On August 28, 1983, the CRS ransacked the studio and seized the transmitter. Police technicians dismantled the antenna.
5,000 people march in Paris on September 3, 1983. Following the demonstration, RL resumed broadcasting.
Supported in France and abroad by the libertarian movement and numerous artists, trade unionists and community activists, RL has waged a long struggle for freedom of expression.
For 40 years, RL has been broadcasting on 89.4 MHz all around the capital, and since 2004 has been streaming on the Internet.
